The story behind Lucky Six, and the cookies it inspired.
Hi, I'm Rachel, the baker behind Lucky Six.
When I was little, the best part of visiting my grandparents was running into Grandma's kitchen and lifting the lid on her old cookie jar. There were always chocolate chip cookies inside. Every time I grabbed one, I felt her love, and it made the day feel just a little more special.
I baked here and there my whole life. Then, in the middle of COVID, I was pregnant with my sixth child, living in a brand-new state, and things felt lonely. When the world began to open up, I wandered into a family-run bakery that was famous for foot-long homemade pop tarts. A family with seven kids ran it, and every kid had a job. It was so cool. They remembered my name, my kids' orders, and how the baby was doing. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I belonged to a community that was embracing me. Going in there felt like somebody was doing something special just for me.
That feeling lit a fire. I started baking more: for a creative outlet, for my kids, and for the people I love. Years later, we are now in Georgia, the sixth state our family has called home, and we've decided to stay for the foreseeable future. So when a door opened to change course in my career, I knew what I wanted: to dig our roots deeper and sew us into this community by adding a little love to the special moments people share with one another, in the form of a thoughtful treat.
Six has always been a lucky number for me. It was on my jersey as a collegiate athlete, it's how many kids I'm raising, and it's how many states it took to get here. So I'm betting on a little luck and a lot of love to build this business and dig into the foundation of this community, one cookie at a time.
